It is easy to be lazy and do nothing with your life- just sitting there and expecting to somehow get rich online and make money in your sleep without actually doing anything at all. But the reality is that you have to work for money.

You can either work hard for 40 years in a regular job or you can work smart online; but no one is going to just hand you a pile of money.

People often ask me for money – last week I had someone randomly approach me on a forum and ask; “I heard you made $12,000 last week – is that true?” I thought for awhile and then realized that it wouldn’t be too hard for him to find out if I lied to him as I regularly discuss how much I make; so I told him yes, yes I did. He asks; “Well could I have $6,200 please?”

When I said no he was actually outraged – “You have so much money, you make money online all the time, I don’t. Why wont you give me anything? PLEASE?”

You see, begging gets you no where. You need to get your ass into gear and make money happen for you. Four years ago I was so poor that my fridge contained nothing but an empty jar of peanut butter and an expired bottle of multivitamins.

One night, stomach growling, I decided to make money online. I wrote books, I made websites, I joined GPT sites.

Do the same, and I promise you’ll get there. Just don’t write to me begging for money.

eBook Money

A lot of people overlook how much money an ebook tailored to a small audience can make with very little effort on your part to market it.

It probably wont make you rich, (although it has the potential to,) but if you write well and create a good product, then sell it for a reasonable price, you can definitely make $100 or so a month with it.

Take these ebooks for example;

They also have a guide on treating thrush and another on using eBay to earn money online; but all the ebooks listed above have some things in common. Let’s assess those now;

1. They all cost a reasonable amount (in this case between $5 and $10); you aren’t being charged $90 for something that only took someone a day to write.

2. None of them offer impossible things, such as $5000 a day, a way to hack the popular site Neopets, etc.

3. They all give you very clear, honest descriptions about who they were written for and how they can help.

4. The price is not hidden away, there is no pretend discount.

The basic contents of the page should flow like this:

- A greeting.

(Would you like it if a shopkeeper completely ignored you?)

- A description.

(Who would find your product most useful and what does it offer them?)

- A price.

(How much would you pay for your own book? Half that, and you know you are on the right track.)

To promote your ebook Yahoo Answers, forums related to the subject and blog comments are all good and free. Just remember; never spam, never copy and paste – you only want to put your link where it is appropriate and useful.

I understand that this is a bit overwhelming for first timers – the first ebook I ever wrote took me many more hours than it should have, simply because I had no idea what to do or how to write an ebook – I didn’t even know how to make a PDF.

Do you? If you are on a Mac and have Word you click “file”, “print” then there’s a button for “save as PDF” – easy.

Everyone else, (Windows, Linux and Mac without Word,) can download a great program for free called Open Office – if you are on a Mac you may need to install X11, (don’t worry, you do have it, it’s on one of your install disks,) but that’s it – you are good to go.

On that note, I am now going to teach you how to write your own ebook.

Picking a subject:
You should pick a subject that you know a lot about, or at least one you feel you could research thoroughly without losing interest.
It should be something targeted at very specific people at first, such as “How to make a piñata”, “How to complete _____”, (that would be the name of a video game,) or “How to take great photographs”.
If you wanted to and had an area of real expertise you could even write something as specific as; “How to throw your dog an awesome birthday party” or “How to set up your computer’s mail program.”
Do not focus on how big or small your market will be – any given subject has people looking for it daily – there might only be 1000 people who search for a piñata ebook on a single day, but if only one buys your book you are successful already.

Writing and Content:
When you first start to write you may feel a little overwhelmed by he empty page in front of you – that’s ok.
You want to use this first page to write a note to those who have bought your ebook, a thank you, and if you feel it suits the book, a table of contents.
You should where possible include images to go with your instructions; people like images – they pretty up a page and they fill things out nicely.
After an introduction, put in all of your information, step by steps, resources, etc. This is the bulk of your book.
Then you want to include any extra advice or added “tips and tricks” that have helped you, relating to your subject.
Lastly, close with a personal touch and a message of good wishes.

After you’ve done this, you obviously need to market it – I have a post here explaining how you can do this for free; although naturally Adwords is worth using if you have a credit/debit card and can create a good campaign.

It is not hard to write an ebook if you are passionate about the subject and are able to set aside a day or two to put your head down.

Just keep in mind that after selling your first one, you are technically a “professional author”. (How cool is that?)
